Automotive EGR Gas Temperature Sensor Market Anticipated To Surge With An Impressive CAGR Of 2025

In an IC engine, EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) gas temperature sensors are used to measure the temperature of the exhaust system. EGR is a technique that is utilized to reduce the nitrogen oxide emissions in petrol/diesel engines. Exhaust gases are reintroduced into the engine combustion chamber to cool the combustion flame. Some vehicles employ an EGR temperature sensor to determine EGR operation. This information is used by the powertrain control module (PCM) to regulate the EGR operation. EGR gas temperature sensor is located in front of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and in front of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). It detects the exhaust gas temperature and converts it into a voltage and transmits this signal to the engine ECU in order to control engine conditions to effectively reduce emission. EGR bypass valve function diagnostic as well as thermal protection.
Gas temperature sensors are employed in various applications such as petrochemicals, automotive segments, consumer electronics, computer peripherals, space applications, and industrial sector due to their improved sensitivity. Stringent norms imposed globally by regulatory bodies on carbon emissions of automotive are also anticipated to boost the demand for automotive EGR gas temperature sensors, which control the emission of toxic gases from the vehicle. Governments of various countries have imposed regulations on vehicle emission in order to control air pollution. Technological advancements and emergence of the MEMS technology in temperature sensing are the key opportunities for gas temperature sensors. Emerging market have been witnessing an increase in vehicle production, which leads in increasing demand for automotive EGR gas temperature sensors. Consumer electronics and computing systems are witnessing a consistent increase in demand by automobile makers. Pricing is a major disadvantage of this component. Malfunctioning and replacement is a major issue, as it lies in the high temperature zone.
The automotive EGR gas temperature sensor market can be segmented based on vehicle type, measurement methods, temperature range, and geography.
Based on use, the automotive EGR gas temperature sensor market can be segregated into passenger vehicles (PVs) and commercial vehicles (CVs). The passenger vehicles segment can be further split into hatchbacks, sedans, multi- purpose vehicles (MPVs), and sport utility vehicles (SUVs). The commercial vehicles segment can be further sub-segmented into lightweight commercial vehicles (LCVs) and heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs).
In terms of measurement methods, the automotive EGR gas temperature sensor market can be classified into resistance temperature sensor and thermocouples. In resistance temperature sensors, electrical resistance is generated which correlates with the sensor temperature to indicate the temperature of the system. In thermocouples, the temperature measurement is based on the Seebeck effect, where a voltage is generated across the junction of two conductors of different metals in the presence of a temperature gradient.
In terms of operating temperature range, the automotive EGR gas temperature sensor market can be segmented into NTC thermistor, PTC thermistor, Type N, and Type K. NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) is type of temperature resistance thermistor which has negative temperature coefficient, i.e., in an NTC thermistor, ohmic resistance decreases as temperature increases. Temperature range for this thermistor is -40ºC to +1000ºC. PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) is type of temperature resistance thermistor. In a PTC thermistor, ohmic resistance increases with increase in temperature. Temperature range for this type of thermistor is -40ºC to +1050ºC. Type N and Type P are type of thermocouples. Temperature range for Type N is -40ºC to +1100ºC. Temperature range for Type P is -40ºC to 1200ºC.
In terms of geography, the automotive EGR gas temperature sensor market can be segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Rest of World (ROW). Asia Pacific accounts for a major share of the global automotive EGR gas temperature sensor market, due to the high adoption rate of automotive EGR gas temperature sensor and the booming automotive sector, leading to an increased production of vehicles with automotive EGR gas temperature sensors, especially in China and India.
Key players operating in the global automotive EGR gas temperature sensor market are Delphi Automotive LLP, Robert Bosch GmbH, Denso Corporation, Continental AG, Sensata Technologies Inc., Analog Devices Inc., Infineon Technologies AG, Asahi Kasei Corporation, Continental AG, Free-scale Semiconductor Inc., and Standex Electronics.
